Alpine chamois Safari
From October 31st to November 1st 2020 (2 days)
or for private safari from the 20th of October to the 15th of November 2020 (minimum 2 days)
Two-days alpine hiking safari to observe and discover the biology of the Alpine chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra)
Trekking suitable for all hikers passionate about Alpine species, interested in observing chamois in the wild in the most important part of its biological cycle. During Saturday evening we will present its biological and behavioral characteristics and how to recognize the sexes and age classes. All this informations will be used Sunday morning when we will count the chamois groups on the mountain slope using a professional telescope
Program
FIRST DAY
9.00 am meeting at the railway station of Verbania Pallanza in Fondotoce or at 9.30 am at the town hall of Santino (San Bernardino Verbano)
Itinerary: Cicogna (713 m) – Pogallo (777 m) – Pian di Boit (1127 m)
Length: 10 Km about 4 hours (without breaks)
Difference in altitude: ascent 500 m – descent 250 m

The personal packed lunch will be consumed in Pogallo
SECOND DAY
Itinerary: Pian di Boit (1127 m) – Alpe Terza – chamois’ counting and return to Cicogna
Length: 12.5 km about 6 hours (without breaks and census)
Difference in altitude: ascent 670 m – descent 920 m

Clothing and equipment
- trekking boots with soles in good condition
- waterproof winter jacket or umbrella
- vacuum flask with hot drink
- torch
- mountain clothing (fleece or heavy sweaters)
- wool hat
- gloves
- binoculars
- camera
- trekking poles
If you choose the organized trekking (31th of October to 1st of November) the cost are € 90,00 per person
The cost include guide service, shopping for dinner and breakfast (packed lunches for first and second day are not included), insurance
